The Ocean at the end of the Lane

by Neil Gaiman

A childhood memory re-lived and questioned; beautifully rendered through the eyes of an adult but with the innocence of a child.  Gaiman, with deceptive ease, takes the reader on a haunting, troubling yet somehow gentle tale of a seven year old boy's brush with death, cross-dimensional creatures and very old women.  The doubt and introspection of the narrator adds to the sense of honesty that makes the fantasy elements of the story all the more gripping and believable.

If you like fantasy novels, absorbing writing or just artists making good art;  you should read this book.
